Guadalupe Regional Medical Center (GRMC) today announced that it is a 2022 5-Star recipient for Vaginal Delivery as recognized by Healthgrades, the leading marketplace connecting doctors and patients. This 5-star rating indicates that Guadalupe Regional Medical Center’s clinical outcomes for Vaginal Delivery are significantly better than expected, and places GRMC among the national leaders in Vaginal Delivery.
“Providing new mothers and families with high quality, safe and compassionate care in The Birthing Center is at the heart of what we do,” said Lauren Riggs, BSN, RNC-OB, Director of Women’s Services. “In addition to our board-certified OBGYN’s, a pediatric hospitalist and neonatologist on staff, we are a Certified Texas Ten Step Hospital. We are honored that GRMC’s Birthing Center has been acknowledged on a national level for the eighth year a row for vaginal childbirth deliveries and we continue to make it our goal to provide a family-centered environment that delivers a safe and pleasant childbirth experience.”
Healthgrades analyzed all-payer data for 16 states from 2018 through 2020. Healthgrades found that there is a significant variation in hospital quality between those that have received 5 stars and those that have not. From 2018-2020, patients having a Vaginal Delivery in hospitals with 5-stars have, on average, a 45.1% lower risk of experiencing a complication while in the hospital than if they were treated by hospitals with 1-star.* Additionally, patients having a Vaginal Delivery in hospitals receiving 1-star are, on average, 1.8 times more likely to experience one or more complications than if they were treated in hospitals with 5-stars.*
“It is critical for patients to select care based on three key pieces of information – hospital quality, facility and care team experience with your condition/procedure, and compatibility – and this 5-star distinction is another benchmark to help make those decisions easier,” said Brad Bowman, MD, Chief Medical Officer and head of Data Science, Healthgrades. “We are proud to name Guadalupe Regional Medical Center as a 2022 5-Star recipient for Vaginal Delivery and look forward to their continued efforts to deliver better clinical outcomes for patients during natural childbirth, C-section deliveries, and gynecologic procedures.”
